My yoga confession

Florence Lefebvre

Without further ado, here it is: I have been practicing yoga for about 10 years now, teaching in London for 7 years, organising retreats and workshops, but I never ever, until earlier this month, took the time to go on a yoga retreat myself! Oh irony…

I guess it demanded the right teacher at the right time in the right location and these three factors finally came together this year. The one-week-long retreat was held by Jivamukti teacher Emma Henry in the recently opened Andalusian yoga heaven Suryalila.

Our group of yogis and yoginis was a lot of fun to be around and diverse in terms of nationality, age, profession and ability. We got to know each other sweating on our yoga mats, going for walks, sunbathing by the pool, eating delicious homemade food and for some enjoying a glass of wine or two…

Suryalila welcomed our yoga group as well as a team of volunteers thanks to whom our stay was such a real treat. They swapped their skills (building, taking part in cooking, cleaning, washing up) for free board and food and had interesting stories to tell. Several languages were spoken: English being the dominant one, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish and French. That is one of the things I love about yoga, it brings very different people together, people who would never otherwise have had the opportunity to meet and would have never guessed how well they could get along.

I have now been back for a few days and I have to say that I cannot remember the last time I had such a relaxing time!

Nothing like a yoga retreat to meet incredible people and nourish your body, mind and soul…
